The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Cyanotech rises 9.4%


Cyanotech Corp., the top performer in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index last year with a 370 percent gain, rose 9.4 percent this week to hit its highest level in nearly four years at $2.09. The Kona company, which produces nutritional products from microalgae, posted its previous high of $2.50 on March 31, 2000.

Barnwell Industries Inc., which closed yesterday at an all-time high of $38.50, was the next best performer with a 6.9 percent gain.

Central Pacific Financial Corp., which earlier this week posted a 10.6 percent drop in third-quarter net income, brought up the rear as it fell 6 percent.
