Coming up
with a diamond
easy for suitor

LOVELY KHNL reporter Cindy Paliracio is getting hitched in March to long-time boyfriend Mike Hozempa. The lucky Hozempa is a stock trader and investor who also dabbles as a diamond wholesaler. That should have made the proposal that much easier. The groom to be did things the old-fashioned way and asked for approval from Paliracio's father. The proposal took place at the W nightclub and the bride to be immediately said "Yes." Looking for some wedding tips, Cindy consulted Keri Shepherd's new book, "Hawaiian Weddings Made Simple." Not many know that Cindy was once a Budweiser model posing for ads in a swimsuit and was featured last year in E! Entertainment Television's "Wild on Hawaii." ...

JACKIE'S Kitchen, actor Jackie Chan's first U.S. restaurant, has been drawing full houses and raves from diners since its soft opening at Ala Moana Center the day after Christmas. A pre-opening media/VIP party drew a number of media types and lots of VIPs. They included Carole Kai, Outrigger Entertainment's Fran Kirk, pianist Ginny Tiu, Duane "Dog" Chapman and partner Beth Smith, mayor hopeful Mufi Hannemann, former Miss Hawaii and singer Traci Toguchi, and HFD spokesman Kenison Tejada on a rare night off ...

SPEAKING OF the bounty-hunting "Dog," he and Smith have signed with A&E to do a cable TV series tentatively entitled, "Dog the Bounty Hunter." It'll be shot partially in the islands, but Chapman wants to show how he makes his home In Hawaii between bounty hunts all over the world ...

That was OK with Patti Wood-Hessler, who was forced quite willingly to delay the departure of her family and spend four more days in the islands before they could get home. They were praying for another Portland storm, but it was not to be ...

REMINDER for all that auditions for Manoa Valley Theatre's upcoming "Copacabana" will be held Saturday at the theater. John Rampage, who usually works for Diamond Head Theatre, is directing ... Lots of Hawaii recognition when the Tokyo Broadcasting System played its 55-minute special on the Honolulu Marathon. It was seen by 2,250,000 viewers ...

And speaking of things Japanese, gyotaku artist Naoki Hayashi will demonstrate the art of making fish prints on rice paper at Nohea Gallery's Ward Warehouse from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Attendees will get a chance to try their hands at gyotaku printing as well ... Where does Russell Siu dine when has a night off from his own 3660 on the Rise? He took his wife, Malia, and his parents out for a meal at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Restaurant Row ...

Judging Kumu Kahua

"I WAS sorry to hear about your accident and hope you recuperate nicely," writes Hank Chapin. He reports Kumu Kahua's production of "Massie/Kahahawaii" has a judicial trial in each of two acts. So it seems appropriate that in the audience on different nights were Judge Steven Alm and Judge Marie Milks ...
