Chicago & America
at Blaisdell

RIGHT ON, AMERICA!: Promoter Tom Moffatt, center, talked with America -- Dewey Bunnell, left, and Gerry Beckley -- moments before they entertained a sold-out house as the opening act of Moffatt's America/Chicago double-bill in the Blaisdell Arena on Saturday. America closed a great set with "Sister Golden Hair" and then came back to encore with "Horse with No Name."

AND CHICAGO ROCKED!: Michi Robbs talked with Chicago's James Pankow, left, and Lee Loughnene as the band relaxed backstage after thrilling the crowd for almost two hours with their greatest hits and more. The horn section -- Pankow, Loughnene and Walter Parazaider -- was particularly impressive. "Free" and "25 or 6 To 4" closed the night with a powerful encore.

BUT LET'S NOT FORGET ...: Cast member Craig Howes, left, playwright Dennis Carroll and Kumu Kahua Artistic Director Harry Wong III had good reason to smile at the opening night party for Kumu Kahua's "Massie/Kahahawai" on Thursday. The theater was sold out, and the production is one of Kumu Kahua's best historical/political plays in recent memory.
