Michigan looking at Perry

Big Ten football champion Michigan is recruiting Kahuku center Jeremy Perry.

The Wolverines were in contact with Red Raiders coach Siuaki Livai last week and are trying to set up a visit for Perry next weekend.

Perry, a Star-Bulletin first-team all-state selection, helped Kahuku to its third state championship in four years last fall. He is on a trip to Oregon State this weekend and plans on making more visits to colleges before making a decision.

"I'm not real sure what I'm going to do," Perry said in a phone interview yesterday after arriving at Oregon State. "I'm going to leave it open until after I take all my trips. The more information I have about all the schools, the better prepared I'll be to make a decision. Michigan is supposed to get back to me, but most likely I'll be going there next week."

Perry has a visit scheduled the following week to the University of Hawaii, and he's waiting to hear back for possible trips to USC and Colorado. Nebraska and Penn State have also shown interest in the 6-foot-3, 290-pound center.

Livai also said the Red Raiders' 6-2, 190-pound safety Afa Garrigan is taking trips to Utah and Houston over the next two weekends. Colorado and Hawaii have also recruited Garrigan.

San Jose State enters fray: San Jose State coach Fitz Hill will be on Maui for the Hula Bowl next week, and will take advantage of his time in the islands with some island-hopping to visit 13 players from several schools.

Hill has meetings scheduled with players at Kahuku (LB Walker Vave, TE Tevita Finau, DL Makana Nicodemus, Garrigan), Saint Louis (DB Keao Monteilh, OL Fale Laeli, OL Bronson Carvalho), Kailua (OL Kea Crowell, DB Derek Mailau), Kamehameha (OL Elwin Freitas, OL Brennan Carvalho) and McKinley (DL Randy Faletoi). He also will meet Hilo OL Abe Medeiros on the Big Island.

Medeiros has been offered a visit at Idaho, and the Vandals are also interested in Saint Louis OLs Makana Mardonada and Laeli.

On the trail: Nanakuli OL Keala Watson is also visiting Oregon State this weekend. Watson will visit UH next week. He said Boston College and Arizona State might also want him to visit. ... Hawaii is looking closely at LB/RB Carl Stokes from Aberdeen, Md.
