2 prep basketball games postponed by weather

Rain has put a damper on local high school sports.

Last night's Aiea at Waipahu Oahu Interscholastic Association basketball opener was postponed due to leaks in the Marauders' gym, according to the Hawaii High School Athletic Association.

The floor was too slick at the Kaiser gym, causing the postponement of the Cougars' basketball game against Roosevelt last night.

Kaiser coach Bryan Almadova said the teams may make up the game tonight at Roosevelt, but nothing was definite as of last night.

All of today's OIA and Interscholastic League of Honolulu softball games are likely to be rained out and postponed, including a key ILH matchup -- Iolani (4-1) at Kamehameha (4-0).

No make-up date for the Aiea-Waipahu varsity basketball game has been set yet.

Kai invited to camp for national soccer team

Hawaii soccer player Natasha Kai has been invited to the Under-21 National Team Camp that runs from Jan. 23 to Feb. 1 at Carson, Calif. She received the news yesterday.

UH coach Pinsoom Tenzing told Kai about a month ago that an invitation was a possibility.

"This is the best thing going that has happened to our program," said Tenzing.

The all-time Hawaii Rainbow Wahine goal scorer and two-time Western Athletic Conference player of the year is excited about the opportunity.

"I'm just going to try my hardest. I want to make the team. It will be good for our team, Kai said.

Kai has stayed in shape since the end of the soccer season. She is working out with the UH women's softball team and is expected to serve as a pinch hitter this spring.
