Coalition looks to save wage earners money

The Hawaii Asset Building Coalition is offering free tax help to low-income working individuals and their families.

The coalition may be able to help wage earners who qualify to claim the Earned Income Credit and Child Tax Credits reduce the amount of Federal income tax owed or get more substantial refunds.

In Hawaii, more than $53.4 million of Earned Income Credit goes unclaimed, said Tom Matsuda, spokesman for the coalition.

"Thousands of Hawaii's working families do not know that they are eligible to receive monies from the federal government and may miss the opportunity to claim the EIC," Matsuda said.

For more information, call the coalition at 528-7050 or Matsuda at 521-4531.
