Holiday, celebrate

WHAT'S THE best thing about Christmas falling on a Thursday? It leaves you the entire weekend to go out and party after spending the holiday with family.

Once the presents have been unwrapped and Christmas dinner has had a little time to digest, check out one of the many parties scheduled for this weekend ...

ON CHRISTMAS night the Architechs and Kaizo Speedgear bring you "Let the Good Times Roll," an 18-and-over night at Venus Nightclub that starts at 10 p.m.

As always, DJs Delve and XL will anchor things on the turntables, but expect a little gift in the form of guest deejays as well. It's been a busy week for Blaise Sato and the rest of the Architechs crew -- first they helped take "Feng Shui" from a monthly event to a weekly one last Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki, then broke off a special holiday edition of "Sweet-n-Sour" Sunday night over at Reign ...

SATURDAY NIGHT marks seven years of existence for local rockers Go Jimmy Go, and they'll celebrate with a night of "good times and good music" at the Hard Rock Cafe with special guests Ooklah the Moc.

Plans are in the works for GJG to head out on tour next year, so this might be one of your last chances to see the guys live for quite some time.

Doors open at 9:30 p.m. for the anniversary party, with KTUH's DJ Big Barr and DJ Nomad serving up a mix of ska, rock-steady and reggae joints to get folks in the mood. Ten bucks gets you into this one; call 955-7383 ...

AND ON Sunday, Longhi's will give it a go once again with another edition of "Star Bar" kicking off at 9 p.m.

Last month's debut got mixed reviews, with people I talked to enjoying the venue and the music but not really feeling the bartending staff and their inability to keep up with a flood of orders that night.

The promoters behind "Star Bar" heard the public's gripes, however, and promise that there will be a number of satellite bars open in addition to the main bar, so hopefully it won't be too hard to get a drink this time around. DJs Rayne, KSM, Drift, Slow Daddy and G-Spot will be on the decks at this 21-and-over party; cover is $10 and will also get you in free at the Wave Waikiki the same night. Call 941-0424, ext. 12, for more info ...

Merry Christmas!
