Lane earns WAC Player of the Week honor

Former Aiea basketball standout Aritta Lane was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week for Dec. 8-14. The Fresno State forward scored a career-high 25 points and had nine rebounds in the Bulldog's 71-61 victory over Santa Clara.

Lane leads the WAC in scoring, averaging 18.6 points a game. It was the first weekly honor for the junior and the first time since the 2001-02 season that a Fresno State player has won the award.

In two games last week, Lane was 15 of 29 from the field.

Saint Mary's beats Texas-Arlington

Triola Jackson scored 17 points and four other players scored in double-digits as St. Mary's defeated Texas-Arlington 73-66 yesterday in the Territorial Savings Bank Invitational. Monica Mertle, Erika Urmonaite, Evynn Van Burger added 10 points each while Serena Benavente chipped in 11.

The Gaels led 40-29 at the half and held on despite being outscored 37-33 in the second half. Krystal Buchanan led the Lady Mavs (2-5) with 15 points.

Hawaii plays Texas-Arlington today at 7 p.m.
