Candy Cane Lane at the Bishop Museum this weekend is giving children an opportunity to have some Christmas fun with a train ride around the decorated grounds and other activities. Trinity Bonilla and her sister Jocey looked at a gingerbread man they decorated with their parents on Friday. The event concludes today.

Valerie Woo held the two smallest nativity scenes from the more than 50 on display yesterday at Koko Head Intermediate School. These two were from the collection of Jennifer and Rob Marrone. The one on the left, from El Salvador, is a scene painted on a copinol seed. The copinol tree is also called the "flour" tree because of a powdery pulp on the fruit. Painting on these seeds is typical of local handicrafts. On the right is a nativity scene in a half of a walnut from Ecuador. The display was sponsored by the Hawaii Kai Community Church.
