Gourmet Cooking Hawaii
gives access to classes
with pros

Gourmet Cooking Hawaii made its debut Monday, offering new and experienced cooks the opportunity to share a kitchen with some of Hawaii's best chefs.

Gourmet Cooking Hawaii's aim is to become the one-stop shop for culinary classes taking place every weekend.

Restaurants that have signed up to participate include Chef Mavro, Donato's, Meritage, Morton's Steakhouse, Padovani's, Tiki's Grill & Bar and Sam Choy's.

Classes will be held at various host restaurants from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. With chef's supervision, class participants will prepare an appetizer, entree and dessert, then sample the finished product.

Classes run $85 per person and are limited to 30 people. Participants will also take home a $20 restaurant gift certificate, copies of the class recipes and gourmet gift items to use in the home. Use those new skills or lose 'em, right?

The project is a joint venture of BCC Inc., a local event-planning and management company run by Kathleen Hurtubise, and Wet Sand Enterprises LLC, a local provider of Web development services.

"Many of our friends were eager to do something different with their free time, like gourmet cooking classes, so we decided to create an ongoing series with top restaurants," Hurtubise said.

Visitors to GourmetCookingHawaii.com will be able to keep up with class and restaurant information and be able to purchase dining gift certificates.

"We want to make it fast, easy and flexible for people," said Dan Dorszynski, managing partner of Wet Sand, who adds that the Web site will make it easy for mainland and international visitors to plan their culinary tour of the island.
