Quinnipiac ends Hilo's run in tournament

HILO, Hawaii >> Rob Monroe scored 36 points to lead Quinnipiac over host Hawaii-Hilo 85-74 yesterday in the final game of the round-robin Hilo Shootout.

Monroe was 12-for-22 from the field, including 6-for-11 from 3-point range. He and Kason Mims led Quinnipiac (2-3) with five assists apiece.

Rashaun Banjo had 14 points for Quinnipiac and Mims added 13.

Hawaii-Hilo (4-2) held a 38-35 lead at halftime before being outscored 50-36 in the second half.

Quinnipiac went from 45 percent shooting in the first half to 56 percent in the second. Meanwhile, Hawaii-Hilo went from 45 percent to 34 percent.

Ryan Abrahams had 23 points and Joe Travis had 21 to lead the Vulcans. Teammate Alex Cabagnot added 11 points.
