Surf’s up

Our guy Jack Johnson's documentary "Thicker Than Water" comes out today on DVD.

Voted the best video of 2000 by Surfer magazine, the film follows Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, Shane Dorian, the Malloy brothers and friends through their adventures in and out of the waters of India, Ireland, Tahiti, Australia and, of course, Hawaii.

They reflect on the essence of surfing and why they have chosen it as their lifestyle and not just a hobby. "To put it simply, this film is 'The Endless Summer' of our generation," the Web site jackjohnsonmusic.com succinctly says.

Johnson scored the soundtrack and features three new tracks by him, as well as a collaboration on the single, "Rainbow," with G. Love.

Both the CD and DVD are also available as a special combo pack.
