Maui college moves
on Costa Rican exchange

WAILUKU >> The chancellor of Maui Community College hopes an agreement with a Costa Rican university will lead to the development of entrepreneurial agricultural enterprises on the Valley Isle.

"We're expecting and hoping this will be our first significant initiative," Chancellor Clyde Sakamoto said.

University of Hawaii President Evan Dobelle signed a memorandum of agreement last week with EARTH University President Jose Zaglul, opening the door for a potential exchange of faculty and students and participation in joint research projects.

Sakamoto said a faculty member from EARTH University will be visiting Maui Community College next semester to help develop the curriculum.

Sakamoto said university officials anticipate some financial resources will be coming from outside the college to help in this endeavor.

One of the people indicating an interest in contributing resources is Maui Land & Pineapple Co., he said.
