Designers showcased at Macy’s

Customers will be given the run of Macy's Ala Moana store for Sunday's "Special Night" event and will be able to meet representatives and designers for several product lines.

Officially, the 6 to 10 p.m. event is an invitation-only affair for Macy's credit-card customers, but the staff won't turn away anyone at the door.

This year's event has a "casino night" theme offering free gifts and giveaways.

Among the guests will be local girl Dyanne Yamada McGrath, designer of the M. MAC line of clothing.

McGrath grew up in Kuliouou and graduated from Kalani High School and the University of Hawaii, eventually moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in fashion. She now creates hand-screened wearable art, sewn from cotton that is grown, woven and dyed in the United States.

McGrath will be in the Island Attitudes section. With each M. MAC purchase, she will be giving away checkbook covers she designed for the event.

"Hawaii is the main source of inspiration for my designs," says McGrath. "I make it a point to come back home especially for this event. It gives me an opportunity to stay in touch with my customers, and that's so important for any designer."
