‘Magnum, P.I.’ returns
to television in the new year

The Hallmark Channel will welcome the New Year with "Aloha" when "Magnum, P.I." joins the broadcast lineup in January.

The Hawaii-based action detective drama starring Tom Selleck was a nationwide hit during its eight-season run and the series remains popular in syndication.

"A proven performer with broad appeal to both men and women, 'Magnum, P.I.' is colorful, compelling, classic entertainment," said David Kenin, Hallmark's executive vice president of programming.

During its 1980-88 run on CBS, "Magnum, P.I.," earned 17 Emmy Award nominations, with Selleck honored as Outstanding Lead Actor in 1984, and John Hillerman named Outstanding Supporting Actor in 1987.

Both actors also won Golden Globe awards for their respective performances as rogue detective Thomas Magnum and Jonathan Higgins, a well-mannered curmudgeon who runs the estate where Magnum lives.

"Magnum, P.I." will debut on the Hallmark Channel with an all-day marathon to be broadcast Jan. 4.
