Club to host Masters swimming championship

Swimmers ages 19 and older are invited to enter the Oahu Club's annual Honolulu Masters Swimming Championships Nov. 14-16.

Swimmers from Canada, Japan and the mainland will join local swimmers in the meet which will consist of individual and relay events in the breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and freestyle. There are no qualifying standards for the meet.

The deadline to enter is Nov. 10. For more information, call the Oahu Club at 395-3300.

Sony Open seeking volunteers

Sony Open in Hawaii organizers are looking for volunteers to help operate the tournament's Tourcast service at next year's event.

The service allows fans to follow the shots of every player during the tournament. Volunteer responsibilities may include player identification or operating laser equipment to document the placement of the ball on the course.

UH swim teams ranked in coaches' opening poll

Hawaii's men's and women's swimming and diving teams are ranked in the opening Top-25 poll by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

The UH men are ranked No. 13, their highest appearance under coaches Mike Anderson and Mike Brown. The Rainbow Wahine entered the rankings at No. 25.

Auburn is ranked No. 1 in both men's and women's polls.

UH golf teams host fall tournaments next week

The Hawaii Warrior and Rainbow Wahine golf teams wrap up their respective fall seasons with the UH/Turtle Bay Intercollegiate and Kent Youel Invitational tournaments.

The UH men host a 16-team field Monday and Tuesday at Turtle Bay. The Wahine tee off Tuesday and Wednesday with a 17-team tournament at Kapolei Golf Course.
