English scores 5
in NBA debut


INDIANAPOLIS >> Former Hawaii guard Carl English made his NBA debut yesterday, scoring five points for the host Indiana Pacers in a 96-82 exhibition win over the Chicago Bulls.

English played seven minutes, going 2-for-3 from the field and 1-for-2 from the line. The rookie guard, who signed as a free agent in July, also had a steal, a foul and one turnover.

Also last night, the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs opened the exhibition season with a 105-93 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies in Paris.

Former Hawaii guard Anthony Carter started for the Spurs at the Bercy Arena, scoring six points with five assists. Carter, who spent the past four seasons with the Miami Heat, was 2-for-3 from the field and 2-for-2 from the line.
