Seasiders sweep yellowjackets

Chun Yi Lin hammered 15 kills and setter Kaala Lo dropped in six service aces as the Brigham Young-Hawaii volleyball team beat Montana State-Billings 30-16, 30-14, 30-15 last night at Laie.

The win improved the Seasiders to 4-0 in the PacWest, keeping them in first place with Hawaii Pacific.

Olivia Munro led the Yellowjackets with nine kills and eight digs while Laie native Alberta Letoa dug up seven balls.

Kodama tied for second in Reno

Led by senior Matt Kodama, the University of Hawaii's men's golf team finished eighth with a score of 869 at the 18-team Ernst F. Lied Wolf Pack Classic yesterday in Reno, Nev.

Kodama, who tied for second individually, shot a four-under par 68 and a six-under par 66 to finish with a three-round total of 206. He moved up from 27th place after Monday's first round.

Freshman Geoffrey Stevens, who was tied for first after the end of the first round, fell to 40th place and into a tie with teammate James Beston. Also competing for Hawaii were Manarii Gauthier (T67, 227) and Jordan Belton (T93, 236).

Wahine ninth: The University of Hawaii women's golf team heads into the final round of today's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M., in ninth place with two-day total of 622.

Freshman Sara Odelius leads the Wahine with a score 151 and stands in a tie for 12th place. Dale Gammie is tied for 25th with a total of 153, followed by Megan Stoddart (155), Brooke Jackson (163) and Megan McGuinness (175).

Kauai's Roberts wins award

William Woods University setter Heather Roberts, a junior from Koloa, Kauai, was named American Midwest Conference Setter-of-the-Week for the week ending of October 4.

Roberts, who prepped at Kauai High School, helped the Owls to a 3-1 record last week. She dished out 53 assists against Hannibal-LaGrange and Bethany and 62 against Lindsey Wilson.

Les Keiter to speak at Iolani

Legendary brodcaster Les Keiter, along with best-selling author Peter Golenbock, will speak about sports journalism Oct. 15 from 11:50 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Seto Hall of the Weingberg building.

Hawaii Chess Federation holding tournament

The 2003 Fall Interscholastic Chess Tournament will take place Saturday at Aliamanu Intermediate cafeteria.

Check-in time is scheduled for 9 a.m. with the first round to begin at 10. The cost of the tournament is $5 if postmarked by today, and $10 for any time after.

Roberts Hawaii offering shuttle for UH game

Roberts Hawaii School Bus will be offering round trip shuttle bus service to Aloha Stadium for only $5 for this weekend's Warrior football game against Fresno State.

Bus 1 will pick up at Koko Head Elementary, Hawaii Kai Park n' Ride, and Bank of Hawaii at Kahala Mall at 3:45, 4, and 4:30 p.m. Bus 2 will pick up at the Mililani Mauka Park n' Ride at the same times, and Bus 3 will pick up at Keolu Elementary at 4 p.m. followed by Windward Mall at 4:15 p.m. Wheelchair vans are also available on these routes at the same cost.

Reservations are required and service is first come, first serve. To make reservations or for any additional information, call 832-4886.
