Copter rescues model
Kasuya after hiking fall


Tall model Tina Kasuya, a Midweek Metro columnist and popular gal-about-town, has faced the cameras hundreds of times while modeling, but last Saturday there was one photo she really didn't want to be taken. Rescue officials took the shot after Tina, scratched and bruised, and a friend were rescued by helicopter after slipping off a Nuuanu trail and falling down a mountain side. Tina said she grabbed shrubbery to keep from going over a cliff and suffering serious injuries or worse. They climbed back up the slope and called 911. The ordeal lasted four hours, Tina said ...

Peggy Chun's Day

Talented artist Peggy Chun, one of the sunniest persons on the planet despite suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease, will be inducted into the Compadres Wall of Fame Nov. 18. Sally Parker and her daughter, Meghan Goldman, are chairing the fund-raiser that will help with Peggy's medical bills. Sally and Meghan spend a day a week at Peggy's Nuuanu home, as do others, helping with her care and making meals. The cost for the Compadres luncheon is $100 and will include entertainment by Keola Beamer and a program emceed by Mike Buck of KHVH Radio. Lynn Cook says the centerpieces will be auctioned. Some centerpieces will include gift certificates from Murphy's donated by Don Murphy, paintings by Peggy and other donated items. Compadres owner Rick Enos is flying in from S.F. for the event. The Hawaii Opera Theatre's ball Nov. 8 is named after one of the upcoming season's productions, "The Merry Widow." The Parisian-themed, black-tie Merry Widow Ball will be held at the Sheraton Waikiki. A French menu will be offered by Sheraton Chef Dwight Yoshioka. Audi Hawaii's Ken Stanford has given the fund-raiser a boost by providing a new Audi A6 for the silent auction. Another hot auction item is a Crystal Cruise Lines voyage from Italy to Britain with a stop at the French Riviera during the Cannes Film Festival. Morton's Zyron Schoniwitz has been promoted to G.M. of Morton's in Singapore. On his way to his post, Zyron and new wife, Rosa, stopped in Hong Kong to spend time with Rosa's family. While there, they had dinner at Morton's which Zyron said has a terrific view overlooking the harbor. Isle Morton's exec chef Jack Mead and wife, Cameo, recently welcomed a baby girl. Kahala Mandarin festival

The Kahala Mandarin is holding its third Food & Wine Festival Wednesday through next Saturday at the hotel. The opening reception, besides food and wine, will have a gift from Bulgari for guests and the opportunity to win a man's and woman's Bvlgari watch. The cost for the opener is $40 and part of the proceeds will benefit culinary programs at Kapiolani and Leeward community colleges. Prices for the 10 other events range from $35 to $100 and include wine and champagne tastings and dinners prepared by chefs from the Kahala Mandarin and other restaurants ...
