About the scores

Here are the 2003 reading results for the Hawaii State Assessment and Stanford Achievement tests for Hawaii's public school students, grades 3, 5, 8 and 10. The tests were taken in April. For the HSA, the state Board of Education sets proficiency levels. HSA results may not add up to 100 percent because the percentage of enrolled students who did not take the test is excluded. The SAT is nationally normed so that 23% of all test takers score "above average," 54% score "average," and 23% "below average."

Note: The number tested is left blank if fewer than 30 students took the test.
