Look good, feel good
In the pre-Thanksgiving spirit of giving, a couple of cosmetics companies will be donating proceeds from certain product sales to benefit the Pink Ribbon Campaign against breast cancer during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
For a relatively pain-free way to do your part, shop for:
>> Philosophy "remember bath and shower gel": 100 percent of sales of this three-in-one shampoo, conditioner and shower gel will be donated to the Women's Cancer Research Fund (formerly the Cedars-Sinai Research for Women's Cancers). The cost is $20.
>> Stila "breast cancer awareness lip glaze compact": Limited edition compact offers four mint-scented lip glazes in sheer fuchsia, baby pink, mauve and blush pink to raise awareness of the Pink Ribbon campaign.
Stila will donate a portion of proceeds of sales from each $38 compact to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The annual Hui Makaala Scholarship Luncheon and Fashion Show Oct. 26 promises to be a big one this year, marking the 50th anniversary of Iolani Sportswear.
The company will be introducing a limited retrospective collection of kimono-inspired patterns reflecting its 1953 beginning. Keiji Kawakami, a World War II veteran and member of the highly decorated 442nd "Go for Broke" Regimental Combat Battalion, returned home to start the company with his wife Edith, plus four sewing machines and seven employees in a dirt-floor room behind a gas station.
Also featured will be the latest collection by Linda Iki, whose Japanese heritage inspires her creations.
The show takes place at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom, beginning with boutique sales from 9 a.m., and noon lunch.
Tickets are $45 per person. The deadline for reservations is Oct. 17. For more information call Lillian Miyao at 837-8466 or Karen Shishido at 527-5598.
Funds raised will provide scholarships for high school seniors.
