Asia-Pacific mayors
to discuss environment

Policy-makers and environmentalists will gather with mayors from throughout the Asia-Pacific region next week to discuss the environmental challenges their cities face.

The third biennial Mayors' Asia-Pacific Environmental Summit, Monday through Wednesday, will include a session in which participating mayors register their agreement to undertake specific actions to implement the summit's findings.

"Not only will this year's environmental summit offer a catalyst for new ideas," said Mayor Jeremy Harris, "it will reinforce each leader's global commitment to developing solutions for their specific regions."

Keynote speakers include:

>> Jack Dangermound, president of Environmental Services Research Institute.
>> Kaarin Taipale, chair of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives.
>> Takuya Okada, president of AEON Environment Foundation Group.

Officials from the Asian Development Bank, U.S. Agency for International Development and U.N. Environment Programme will also attend.

The conference, hosted by the City & County of Honolulu, will be at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and is open to the public at $475 per person. Day rates are also available.
