DJs spin at Wave
and on Maui

More guest DJs are spinning this weekend. DJ Dan appears at Casanova's in Makawao on Maui tonight and will be at the Wave Waikiki tomorrow. Dan was Los Angeles' top techno DJ in the early '90s and went on to inspire the breakbeat trend with the classic anthem "Loose Caboose." He would go on to reinvent the sound with "Needle Damage," described as "a fusion of all that is hard and funky." His latest CD for Moonshine is a live mix from a San Francisco club set.

The Honolulu gig will also feature Trek, originally from Seattle and an Oahu resident since '96. He's gone on to be one of the islands' original junglists.

Daniel J, G-Spot, IKON, Scotty Soul, Sovergn T (Taharba) and KSM fill out the night's lineup. For information about the Maui show, call 808-572-0220. The Wave show is $5 to $15 for 21 and over.

"Club 1" at Downtown's Studio 1 Art Gallery features DJ Mei-Lwun, the deckmaster of Soulstice, the popular Bay Area multi-kulti dance crew. Around since the mid-'90s, their singles "Tenderly" and "Lovely" are considered house and drum-and-bass classics.

Doors open at 9 p.m. with a $10 cover and a fashionable dress code for women 21 and over, and men 23 and over.
