No bus talks
scheduled
over weekend

No bus strike talks have been scheduled for this weekend, officials for Oahu Transit Service Inc. and Teamsters Local 996 said yesterday.

The last negotiation session was on Wednesday. Bus talks are not expected to resume until next week.

The strike by 1,336 bus workers began on Aug. 26 and is now in its 19th day.

Workers are seeking pay increases in the second and third years of a three-year pact. Management officials at OTS say there is no money for raises.

Throughout the bus strike some who paid money for monthly bus passes have complained that refunds should be made.

Yesterday, city officials announced that refunds for bus passes are currently unavailable.

City officials said they will make prorated refunds to people who held bus passes during the strike, but because workers who will process refunds are striking, refunds will not be made until the strike ends.

The city Web site says that refunds will be in the form of reduced charges for a future bus pass or a cash refund.

To receive the refund, bus pass holders must surrender their current pass.

City officials said that more details about specific procedures to submit for a refund will be posted on the city Web site at www.co.honolulu.hi.us/dts/strike.htm and advertised in local newspapers.
