Waianae boys bring home titles

Boston Salmon and Kawika Tangjian of Waianae brought home national titles with dominating wins in the finals of the 2003 Ringside Labor Day Boxing Tournament in Kansas City, Mo.

Salmon won the boys 85-pound division title after defeating Hector Martinon by unanimous decision. Tangjian had a bit tougher fight, but still managed to defeat Jermell Charlo in the finals of the 95-pound division by a 4-1 split decision.

The two boys represented the Evolution Boxing Club, coached by Bruce Kawano. The tournament featured 1400 boxers from six different countries.

Friends of Kailua fun run set for Nov. 2

The Friends of Kailua High School 5K fun run/walk is set for Nov. 2, to benefit the school's computer academy.

Class finishers and every 25th finisher will receive a prize or ribbon, and there will be a drawing for a neighbor island round trip. Entry fee is $19 for entry and a T-shirt, or $10 for entry or shirt only.
