Waikiki will host Olympic triathlon trials

Honolulu and Waikiki will serve as host site for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials Triathlon, edging out Cleveland, Clermont, Fla., and Tempe, Ariz.

Winners in the elite men's and women's divisions will claim one of three spots on the U.S. Olympic team.

The event, set for April 18, will consist of a 1,500-meter swim in Waikiki, a 40K bike of five loops around Diamond Head, and a 10K run around Kapiolani Park.

Kalani volleyball tournament opens today

The Stamp Out Drugs Girls Volleyball Tournament, hosted by Kalani High, begins today at the Falcons' gym..

Kalani, Kapolei and Kaiser will play a round robin today starting at 5 p.m. Tomorrow's action features Campbell, University, Hawaii Baptist and Punahou. The tournament concludes Saturday.

Daily admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Goodwill Games basketball coaches clinic set

University of Hawaii basketball coaches Riley Wallace and Vince Goo, Chaminade's Aaron Griess and Russell Dung from Hawaii Pacific headline the Hawaii International Youth Goodwill Games basketball coaches clinic on Oct. 11.

The clinic is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Damien Memorial High gym. Also on staff are Larry Doty of Linfield College and former Brigham Young-Hawaii coach Chic Hess. For more information, call Hess at 263-3310 or e-mail him at chichess@hawaii.rr.com.
