This month's emcee battle, according to organizer Kavet the Catalyst, will be a "topic battle," where participants are given a pre-selected subject at random before facing off against their opponent.

If you've got the skills, registration for the battle is at 8 p.m. Otherwise, bring five bucks to get in and watch heads roll ...

YOU'VE GOT another chance at being on television this weekend -- head over to Nick's Fishmarket on Saturday night for a shot at being in "The Lei," a locally produced, reality-based dating show set to make its debut Sept. 14.

Auditions for "The Lei" will run from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday, and cameras will be rolling all night long, so make sure you dress to impress. Call 392-4012 ...

JUST DOWN THE street at All Star Hawaii, local turntable guru Kutmaster Spaz makes his acting debut on Saturday.

Spaz has a role in the movie "Reaction Time," which was produced and directed by another Hawaii resident, Jake Akuna, of Vigilante Studios.

Doors open at 9 p.m. on Saturday, with the movie screening beginning at 10 p.m. The guys from No Bare Feet will perform afterward. Party people 21 and over only at this one; call 955-8326 ...

Stay out late the night before and party above the stars at Sarento's during "Nin9." 2Tight Productions teams up this time with Pussycat Projects, Double-O-Spot, DFX, GoldenChild and Doorman Productions to present three rooms of hip-hop and house music for the 21-and-over crowd.

Among the waxmasters scheduled to man the decks at "Nin9" on Sunday: DJs Anit, Rayne, Sonic, Stealth and Sub-Zero. Las Vegas' DJ Charles Lee will also turn in a set that night. Doors open at 10 p.m.; call 387-8483 to make table reservations for the evening ...
