Vegetarian nutrition

Dr. Michael Greger, a specialist in vegetarian nutrition who has spoken nationally on the topic of Mad Cow disease, will be the guest lecturer at the September meetings of the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii:

Sept. 4: "Killer Fats and Acrylamide: How Some Vegetarian Foods May Be Damaging Our Health," 7 p.m., Castle Medical Center. Registration required; call 263-5400.

Sept. 10: "Optimum Nutrition: New Research on Omega 3s and B12," 7 p.m. Ala Wai Golf Course Clubhouse

Sept. 13: "Optimum Nutrition," 7 p.m., Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Kahului, Maui.

Sushi lessons

Long-time sushi-maker Paul Onishi teaches hands-on classes on consecutive Saturdays at Kapiolani Community College. Classes run 9 a.m. to noon and cost $43 each. To register call 734-9211.
