Fall performances
include poetry, jazz,
rocking seniors


It's a mixed bag of performances that promoter Tim Bostock brings to stage this fall, from Middle Eastern poetry to Chinese martial arts:

An Evening with Rumi: Stories and poetry by the Sufi poet Jalaluddin Rumi will be presented by Dan Furst, accompanied by Middle Eastern music and dervish turning by members of the Mevlevi Order. At 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12 and 13 and 2:30 p.m. Sept. 14, ARTS at Marks Garage. Tickets are $15 ($12 students and seniors), available at Serendipity Books, 2885 S. King St. Call 949-4711.

Shanghai Symphony Orchestra: The Hawaii debut of the 80-piece orchestra will include works by Mozart, Beethoven and the soundtrack from the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." At 8 p.m. Sept. 20, Neal Blaisdell Concert Hall. Tickets are $65, $50 and $35, available at the Blaisdell box office or Ticketmaster. Call 877-750-4400.

Don Tiki's Tribute to Martin Denny: A tribute to the master of exotica music, featuring the Don Tiki band and dancers, with guests to be announced. At 7 p.m. Oct. 4, Hawaii Theatre. Tickets are $36, $28 and $22, available at the Hawaii Theatre box office. Call 528-0506.

Young@Heart: Thirty-five senior citizens from Northampton, Mass. (average age, 77), rock their way through a century of pop and rock 'n' roll classics. At 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 and 17, Hawaii Theatre. Tickets are $45, $40 and $30 ($10 discount for students and seniors), available at the Hawaii Theatre box office. Call 528-0506.

Le Masquerade: The annual Honolulu Theatre for Youth fund-raiser is a Halloween costume party with the theme "Once Upon a Spooky Time." Come dressed as your favorite storybook character or in your best Halloween costume. The evening includes ghostly performances, costume prizes, games, auction, music and buffet dinner. At 6 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel's Monarch Room. Tickets are $175; Sponsor Tables of eight are $1,300 to $4,500. Call Lisa Ueki at HTY, 839-9885.
