Services today for
former isle police officer


Memorial services for Patrick Martin Maher, the former Honolulu police officer who was killed Aug. 2 in Federal Way, Wash., will be held today in Honolulu.

The private portion of the memorial service will take place in the courtyard of the main police station at 5 p.m.

The service will then move to McCoy Pavilion in Ala Moana Park at 6:30 p.m. where the service will open to the public.

Maher, a seven-year veteran of the Honolulu Police Department, was with Federal Way police in Washington for only seven months when he was killed while breaking up a scuffle.

Before joining HPD, Maher served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 20 years.

Maher is survived by wife Renee, who is a former Honolulu deputy prosecutor; sons Nicholas and Nathan; daughter Amanda; brother Thomas; and sisters Teresa, Rita Young and Peggy Maher-Dreher.

Other officers from Federal Way will also attend the memorial.
