WELCOME TO MY COUCH: KPOI's Fil Slash, center, shared a couch with Kristie Campbell, left, Jenny Simard, Wendy Shadduck and Gavin Purdy during the 2nd Annual VIP Production Wrap Party in the Side Doors Lounge at Pipeline Cafe last Thursday. The late-evening party was the official finale to the 2003 Steinlager Battle of the Bands competition. The party expanded into the main room when Olivia, one of the also-ran bands, kicked it with a tight concert-caliber set around 11 p.m.

A PERFECT HO'IKE: Kawaikapuokalani Hewett and Nalani Badua relaxed between shows at his 26th Annual Ho'ike on Saturday. Hewett surprised Jerry Santos with a Hawaiian quilt before the first show.

CONGRATULATIONS, NONA!: Nona Beamer was congratulated by Mahi Beamer, left, and "Uncle Keola" Beamer during the Ka Himeni Ana 20th Anniversary Concert at the Hawaii Theatre on Saturday. Nona celebrated her 80th birthday the night before and was honored at the concert for her work in perpetuating Hawaiian music. Pai'ea, Pa'ahana and 'Ale'a played excellent unamplified mini-sets, and Bill Kaiwa sang strong and danced hula in the finale honoring Irmgard Farden Aluli.
