"The Electric Kitchen" airing in the second half of August features Helen Kuoha-Torco and Barney Issacs with recipes for the Aloha Festivals.

"Electric Kitchen" airs at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, 6:30 p.m. Monday, and 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday on Oceanic Channel 16.

All the recipes from the show, as well as an archive of recipes dating to 1995, are available at the Hawaiian Electric Co. Web site, www.heco.com.


Ono Loaded Saimin

4 cups water
2 packages (3-ounce size) dry ramen noodles with soup base
1/2 cup sliced char siu (Chinese sweet roasted pork) or cooked chicken
3 cups sliced won bok (Napa or Chinese cabbage)
2 cups bean sprouts
1/2 cup sliced imitation crabmeat
1/4 cup EACH slivered Japanese steamed fish cake, sliced green onions, chopped Thai basil leaves, chopped mint leaves and chopped Chinese parsley
1 hard boiled egg, sliced
1 to 2 tablespoons Thai sweet chile sauce

Bring water to boil in a pot. Add ramen noodles, soup base, char siu and won bok; simmer 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Pour into 2 serving bowls, top with bean sprouts, crabmeat, kamaboko, green onions, basil, mint, Chinese parsley, and sliced egg. Serve with Thai sweet chile sauce. Serves 2.
