Maze in Waikiki
is closing down

IT'S BEEN a fun two-year run for the Maze in Waikiki, but as summer comes to an end, so does the nightclub's existence.

I first heard the rumblings a few weeks ago but wasn't able to confirm anything until this past weekend when I found out promoters Jay P Productions had pulled out on Sunday nights there.

Then I got an e-mail from a fan of the Juicy crew, lamenting the fact that this Saturday would be her last chance to shake it with them in the space that used to be home to Joy Square back in the day.

So if you haven't been down there lately, stop in at the Maze before the end of the month for one last drink and say goodbye to DJs Archangel, Billy G, B. McCarthy, Paul Shih and Scotty Soul ...

SPEAKING OF goodbyes, I also need to take a minute and wish the guys from Olivia well as they get ready to jump on a plane and make the move to California.

Luckily for me, I've been able to catch Justin Abilla, Reed Cromwell, Christian Perreira and Gabe Watts a few times in the past month or so -- they took part in the "2003 Battle of the Rock Bands" over at Pipeline Cafe one Thursday when I stopped by, and I also got a chance to take in their set at the Hard Rock Cafe on a recent Friday. Best of luck, guys ...

CAN'T WAIT for the weekend to get all glamorous and hit someplace swanky for a few drinks? Try stopping by Indigo for the debut of "The Associates Club" on Thursday night.

You can't go wrong with the aural stimulation of DJ Mark Chittom in the Green Room, and Soul Kitchen will hold things down on the hip-hop tip all night long in Indigo's Opium Den. A fashion show is also scheduled to take place sometime during the evening; call 521-2900 ...

DO YOU know a band that's looking for a gig? Wave Waikiki's Flash Hansen is putting together a new "Rock-A-Raoke" night and needs a backup band for patrons brave enough to get onstage and sing their favorite rock song.

Flash asks that bands be able to play anything from the '60s to "the newest stuff," and while a lead singer isn't necessary, "it would be cool if they did" have one.

If you're in a band or might know anyone who would be interested in this opportunity for a weekly gig, give the Wave a call at 941-0424, ext. 12, or send an e-mail to promo@wavewaikiki.com ...
