Kupono Sugiki danced a traditional hula in honor of the new Aloha Festivals royal court yesterday at Honolulu Hale. The Men of Kahulaliwai and the Ladies of Halau Ka Waikahe Lani Malie, under the direction of kumu hula Blaine Kamalani Kia, took part in the colorful tribute. Sugiki's dance recalled the legend of Pele and her romance with Prince Lohiau of Kauai.
