Savovic considering
Europe after getting cut

He is not completely surprised
about being waived by the Nuggets

Former Hawaii basketball standout Predrag Savovic was waived by the Denver Nuggets yesterday.

Savovic's agent, Marc Cornstein, said the move did not come as a great shock to Savovic, who is now considering his next move. In addition to trying to hook on with another NBA team, Cornstein said playing in Europe is a possibility for Savovic.

"We're going to explore all our options in the NBA and also overseas," Cornstein said. "There is some interest, now we just need to really sift through and take the next step.

"We had been in communication with the Nuggets and knew where they stood with things. Obviously, we would have liked for him to stay, but this is not a total surprise."

Savovic played three seasons at UH, helping the Rainbow Warriors to two Western Athletic Conference tournament championships. He went undrafted in 2002 and considered several offers from teams in Europe, but ended up signing a free-agent contract with the Nuggets.

Savovic, a 6-foot-6 guard, played in 27 games in his rookie season with Denver, averaging 3.1 points per game. He scored a season-high 11 points against Utah on Nov. 20, 2002.

Savovic played with the Nuggets' summer league team the past two years. He played in the L.A. Pro Summer League and Reebok Rocky Mountain Revue last month and averaged 3.8 points in nine games.

"He's optimistic in that he knows he's going to be playing professional basketball this year; where and when that gets resolved we don't know," Cornstein said. "He's a very practical and bright young guy and he knows to be able to play professional basketball and make a living that way is pretty fortunate.

"Obviously, for peace of mind you'd like to have things done sooner rather than later, but we don't want to rush into something. We'll see what's out there and take the best possible alternative."
