The Bay Clinic Inc., a group of community health centers on the Big Island, has received a grant of $14,000 from the Hawaii Pizza Hut Literacy Fund to purchase new books for its Reach Out and Read program.
Pizza Hut delivers booksThe program promotes reading by exposing families to reading during well-baby checkups, providing new books and recruiting volunteer readers for the clinics waiting rooms. The grant will be used to purchase books for three health center sites at Pahoa, Kau and Hilo and the expansion of the program in Keaau.

She has been an accountant at the property developer and manager for two years.
>> Island Insurance Cos. has promoted Lynda Cheong to underwriting manager of the personal insurance division. She was previously the company's personal insurance service center supervisor. She oversees 10 underwriters and raters to ensure that policies are underwritten accurately and in a timely manner. She also maintains agency relations and provides training to promote employee development. Cheong joined the company in 1994 as a personal lines rater.

>> Jewelers of America has awarded Michael Parker their certified senior management professional and certified senior sales professional designations. The certification programs set uniform standards for evaluating the facts, processes, procedures, terms and concepts that jewelry store managers and sales professionals encounter in their work. Parker has been in the jewelry business for 40 years and is president of Michael's Fine Jewelry in Aiea. He also runs the Aiea jewelry store Island Legacy with his wife, Joanne.
