Former isle minister
gets Unity’s highest honor

The highest honor given within the Association of Unity Churches has been presented to the Rev. John Strickland, former pastor of Unity Church of Hawaii.

Strickland was honored for 27 years of service in the ministry with presentation of the "Light of God Expressing" award at a June 15 church convention at Unity Village, Mo.

He represented the Unity movement at the Parliament of World Religions in Capetown, South Africa, in December 1999. For several years he directed Silent Unity, the denomination's worldwide prayer ministry, which produces Daily Word devotional magazine.

Strickland is now senior minister of Atlanta Unity Church in Georgia, and previously served as senior pastor at the Diamond Head Circle church for 10 years.

"He has been practicing what the Unity message teaches, practical Christianity," said the Rev. John Wingfield, interim minister of Unity Church of Hawaii.
