Mililani team advances to Zone tournament

The Mililani PONY 13-14-year-olds leave Monday to represent Hawaii in the West Zone on Aug. 2-6 in Fullerton, Calif.

West Zone winners advance to the PONY World Series.

Mililani advanced to the West Zone by winning the Pony State Regional Tournament on July 21 in Waianae, defeating Maui 6-4. T.J. Esclito and Jared Nagai had three hits each for Mililani, and Waylen Sing Chow earned the win on the mound.

Barbers Point to host golf invitational

Amateur golfers are invited to enter the Barbers Point Invitational Golf Tournament set for Aug. 29-31 at Barbers Point Golf Course.

The field is limited to 192 golfers with handicaps of 15 and under. The field will be divided into four divisions -- championship, A-flight, B-flight and senior flight.

The entry fee is $90 for military personnel and $125 for civilians. The deadline to enter is Aug. 18. For more information, call 682-2098.

HSWGA to hold 25th championship tournament

The 25th annual Hawaii State Women's Golf Association Senior Championship, for HSWGA club members aged 50-and-over, is set for Aug. 25 at the Waikele Golf Course.

Three-time winner Mona Kim-Lee is the defending champion.

Boys and Girls Club competitions

The Boys and Girls Club of Honolulu Spalding Clubhouse is holding its Go For The Gold IV 2003 on Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds of Washington Middle School.

There will be 3-on-3 basketball and volleyball tournaments, billiards and more. For more information, call 942-5111.

Junior lifeguard championships

The Junior Lifeguard State Championships will be held Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ala Moana Beach Park.

The event is open to any junior lifeguard in the state, ages 13 to 17, who was enrolled in the summer beach program. Competitions in five events are scheduled for two boys and girls age groups.
