>> It's "Noche de Los Locos Pumas" at Anna Bannana's tonight with the proactive Go Jimmy Go, the hellacious Hellbound Hounds and DJ BigBarr spinning roots, rock and reggae. It's 7 bucks at the door, 21 and over, all starting at 9:30 in the p.m.

>> And the last guest spot at Juicy tomorrow night at the Maze in the Waikiki Trade Center will be filled by the duo Total Science from London. "Their vision is muscular, soulful, tough and emotional," so the copy goes, expressing their mutual love of electro and hip-hop in their sounds. 18-and-overs can expect to pay $5, $10 or $15 to get in, depending how early they get there. Doors open at 9.

Renaissance Awards

The industry's best will be honored during the Building Industry Association of Hawaii's 2003 Renaissance Building & Remodeling Awards ceremony next Friday at the Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki Hotel's Pacific Ballroom.

The ceremony is open to contractors, developers, architects, designers and kitchen and bath designers to showcase their top projects.

Categories include details, residential remodeling, new residential, kitchen and bath, commercial remodeling, new commercial, historical and landscaping.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with no-host cocktails. Dinner and the program starts at 6:30 p.m.

Remodel it right

Building Industry Association of Hawaii's "Remodel It Right" series of free seminars travels to Windward Mall Aug. 16.

Hawaii Remodelers Council, an arm of BIA-Hawaii, will stage a miniexpo from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the mall's center stage, offering tips on how to take a remodeling project from start to finish, including financing and hiring an architect, remodeler or landscaper.

Landscape contractor Greg Lee, of Landscapes by Tropical Images Inc., will share expertise on native plants and their use in landscape design during a seminar from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

"Remodel It Right" heads to the Town Center of Mililani Sept. 20 with a seminar.

Gala by design

The Hawaii chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers will honor their top professionals during an awards banquet Sept. 5 at the Sheraton Waikiki Kauai Ballroom.

This year's theme is "Gala di Mystero," and guests are asked to dress in semiformal attire and are encouraged to design their own mask or purchase one at the door.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a wine tasting and silent auction, followed by a four-course dinner and no-host cocktails at 7 p.m. with then presentation of awards from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

A portion of the proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Child & Family Service Domestic Abuse Shelters.

Cost is $60 per person, $50 for students. Call 528-4428 for more information.

Do-It-Herself

There's still time to register for Home Depot's free Do-It-Herself workshops being held Monday from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. at Home Depot's Iwilei, Pearl City, Maui and Kailua-Kona branches.

Workshops include how to lay ceramic tile, 6:30 p.m.; install a ceiling fan, 7:15 p.m.; and apply faux paint techniques, 8 p.m.
