Communications-Pacific
tops PR society annual awards


The Hawaii Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America honored achievements by its membership and presented special recognition to three members in ceremonies Wednesday night at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.

The society awarded 11 Koa Anvil awards, 12 Koa Hammers and 16 awards of excellence.

Becker Communications Inc. won four Koa Anvils and the Best of Show award for a public relations program titled "Build Schools, Build Futures -- Vote Yes for School Bonds Campaign," on behalf of the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools. Becker won a total of six awards.

Other multiple award recipients included: Communications-Pacific Inc., 10 awards including two Koa Anvils; McNeil Wilson Communications Inc., eight awards including one Koa Anvil; Stryker Weiner & Yokota Public Relations Inc., five awards including three Koa Anvils; Alexander & Baldwin Inc., two awards; Current Events, two awards; Hawaii Community Foundation, two awards; Olomana Marketing won two awards in partnership with other organizations, including a Koa Anvil for the "Vote 2002 Campaign" with Olelo The Corporation for Community Television.

PRSA-Hawaii inducted Craig Miyamoto, principal and senior counsel of Miyamoto Strategic Counsel, as the 11th member of its Hall of Honor. Kitty Lagareta, chairwoman and chief executive officer of Communications-Pacific., was named the "Gregg W. Perry Public Relations Professional of the Year."

Kristen Cabral, public information officer at the University of Hawaii, won the Hokupaa Award which honors leadership and achievement in the first five years of a PR professional's career.

The Koa Anvil winners were: Tina McNealey, Becker Communications, "Maryknoll School -- 75th Anniversary Publicity Campaign", "Meritage Restaurant -- Grand Opening Publicity Campaign"; McNeil Wilson Communications, "Hawaii Office of Arthur Andersen Forms Independent Firm"; Jennifer Bowers, Communications Pacific, "Pioneer Plaza Integrated Marketing Program"; Becker Communications, "Oceanic Time Warner Cable Launches New Interactive Digital Media Product"; Stryker Weiner & Yokota, "Starwood Hawaii Keiki Aloha Press Trip", "Eighth Annual Honolulu Festival", "AIG Hawaii's Hot Spots Program"; Communications Pacific Community Building Group, "Hilton Grand Vacations Club Waikikian Project"; Nancy Long-Usui, Becker Communications, "Build Schools, Build Futures -- Vote Yes for School Bonds Campaign"; Lurline McGregor and Alan Tang, Olelo and Olomana Marketing, "Vote 2002 Campaign."
