Kaio beats Chiyotaikai
for basho title


NAGOYA, Japan >> Kaio blasted out ozeki rival Chiyotaikai by by oshidashi (frontal push out) today to capture the Emperor's Cup with a 12-3 record on the final day Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament.

It was Kaio's fourth win in as many meetings with Chiyotaikai and earned the 32-year-old Tomozuna stable grappler his first title since 2001 and fourth overall.

Struggling grand champion Musashimaru, Hawaii's Fiamalu Penitani, pulled out last week and Asashoryu quit later, leaving the tournament without a yokozuna.
