>> Brandon Villafuerte has won Portland's closer's job, notching four straight saves.

>> Justin Wayne was mentioned in a South Florida Sentinel report that had Wayne, Nate Bump, Blaine Neal and Ryan Snare possibly going to the New York Mets in a deal for closer Armando Benitez. The Marlins have since traded for Rangers closer Ugueth Urbina, who will be a setup man with Florida, without Wayne being involved.

>> Shane Victorino was nominated by his manager, Dino Ebel, for the Dodgers Player of the Month award for his .306 average since rejoining the organization from San Diego. Wilkin Ruan won the honor for his work in Triple-A and has been promoted to the big club.

>> Keoni De Renne has been placed on the disabled list with a sprained ankle. Before getting hurt, he did get a chance to play with Yankees centerfielder Bernie Williams, who was with Trenton on a rehab assignment.

"When a big-name big leaguer comes down here, it changes everything," DeRenne told the Newark Star-Ledger. "You get a little nervous, and you just try to learn everything you can."

>> Kaulana Kuhaulua has been assigned to Fort Myers of the Florida State League, a lateral move to make room for prospects from Single-A.

>> Kila Kaaihue was the subject of an interview in the Burlington Hawkeye this week. The story can be found on the Web at: www.thehawkeye.com/daily/stories/sp1_0706.html.

>> St. Anthony product Justin Hall was reportedly charged with fifth-degree assault this week after punching a teammate during a charity golf event for a local Little League program.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported that Hall assaulted shortstop Joe Shallenberger and was fined by manager Bill Fanning. Hall apologized but faces up to 90 days in jail or a fine of up to $1,000. No court date has been set.

"He took offense to Shallenberger telling him to be quiet," Fanning told the Star-Tribune. "A punch was thrown in the back of the room. It was one minor punch that didn't really connect very hard. it knocked his hat off. it was a foul tip."
