And even more
Baraquio background

YOU may know that Channel 2 newscaster Bernadette Baraquio is both the wife of KHVH talk radio host Rick Hamada and the sister of former Miss America Angela Perez Baraquio Grey and you may even have read here that she's expecting a baby next month. But did you know she also has a twin? She's Therese "Tess" Baraquio and she's presenting a concert on July 19 for Jerome Grey, celebrating 40 years as an entertainer, musician and composer. He's also the father-in-law of Angela's --his son is Tinifuloa Grey of the group, Reign, who's married to the former Miss America. And if she wants to run for Mrs. America, she's got my vote up front. Guest artists at the concert for Jerome Grey will be Kapena, Toa, Shawn Ishimoto, Ilona Irvine, Natusol and by popular demand, Reign. Ticketmaster, with outlets in select Foodland and Sack N Save stores, is handling ticket sales ...

ANOTHER oldtime entertainer, bandleader Willie Barton had a huge send off at the Monarch Room by a roomful of Isle entertainers (Martin Denny, Jimmy Borges, Carol Kai, Sydette Sakauye, Jan Brenner, Sonya Mendez, among others) prior to his leaving Hawaii and moving back to Missouri after 34 years to care for his mom ...

Golden "Pond"

PERHAPS I'm one of the few who never saw the play or movie (with Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn) of "On Golden Pond," but even if I had, I'm sure I'd have had praise for the production which opened this week at TAG's Yellow Brick Studio. Attorney Jim Tharp, who was in "The Weir," turned in his second sterling performance of the year as Norman Thayer Jr., just turned 80, and visiting their favorite getaway house with wife Jan McGrath. David Farmer directed the heartwarming play and it should be a hit for TAG ...

CHICAGO is more than just the name of a recent movie musical, it's also the location of where Chef Fred DeAngelo of Tiki's Grill & Bar will "star" at the 2003 "Taste of Chicago" July 3 to 5. He'll be helping promote Hawaii's unique Isle cuisine by serving up Kalua Pig Quesadillas and Lilikoi Togarashi Glazed Kauai Shrimp Summer Rolls. He'll be serving portions of the selections to thousands during the extravaganza. Some 3.5 million are expected to attend the event ...

Music Men

GARY, Indiana, is not just the name of a song in "The Music Man," it's also the hometown of Antonio Cornelius and Anthony Shelton of the Isle-based hip/hop-R&B label Worldwide Recordz. The two caught up with their publicist, David Patterson, at the Manoa Rec Center of all places, where Patterson coaches a NCAA basketball Summer League team. Well, you can imagine the boys from Worldwide nearly started hip-hopping themselves when they spotted Jason Carter, flashy playmaker for the UH Rainbow basketball team. Cornelius and Shelton, here in the military, went to high school with Carter in Gary, Indiana, and after their quick P.R. meeting, stayed on to cheer on their home boy ...
