WAIKOLOA BEACH RESORT
Enter the family in the Rubber Duckie Race, which is at 3 p.m. on the Fourth of July at Kings' Lake in the Waikoloa Beach Resort.

Waddle to Waikoloa for Fourth of July fun

The 12th annual Great Waikoloa Rubber Duckie Race and Fourth of July Extravaganza will take place at Kings' Shops in Waikoloa Beach Resort on the Big Island. The daylong celebration starts at 10 a.m. on Independence Day, with the popular Rubber Duckie Race starting at 3 p.m., and ending with a fireworks display over Kings' Lake at 8:30 p.m.

This year's Rubber Duckie Race grand prize is a free one-year lease on a 2003 Honda Civic (including maintenance), sponsored by Big Island Honda, plus free gas for a year sponsored by Koehnen's Interiors. But the prizes don't stop there.

The second-place winner gets $1,000 cash; the third-place finisher gets dinner for two once a month for a year or dinner for a party of 20 at Roy's Waikoloa Bar & Grill; the fourth-place finisher wins a two-night stay at Hilton Waikoloa Village along with two herbal wraps at the newly renovated Kohala Sports club and Spa; and the fifth-place finisher wins a $500 gift certificate from Waikoloa Village market. The next 45 runner-ups will receive prizes from Kings' Shops merchants.

Proceeds will benefit the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawaii. Duckie adoption is by donation and can be made at Kings' Shops until the start of the event.

If you're not into the duck races, there also will be hula and music performances, lei- and ipu-making, food, and -- for the kids -- there will be face painting, balloon sculpting, magic shows and juggling acts.
