Hundreds of Waikiki Beach Marriott Hotel workers marched in front of the hotel on Kalakaua Avenue yesterday afternoon. John Schuster, visiting from Chicago, watched from the Moana Terrace restaurant in the hotel. Nearly 500 union employees are seeking a new contract. The old contract expired at the end of February and has been extended while contract negotiations are under way. Either side can cancel the contract with 48 hours' notice. Local 5 of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union says the union and management disagree over wages, subcontracting, successorship protection and workload. The union is seeking contracts similar to those reached recently with the Hyatt, Hilton, Sheraton and Ilikai hotels in Waikiki.
