At the Command Retreat Graduation Ceremony at Tripler Army Medical Center yesterday, more than 100 interns, residents and fellows were presented with graduation certificates. Among them was Julia Lim, being congratulated by parents Carol and Ernie Takafuji. He is a former Tripler deputy commander.

Explosive-detecting military working dog Roeska was brushed by kennelmaster Justin Stephenson yesterday at Marine Corps Base Hawaii before the dog's retirement ceremony. The 12-year-old Belgian malinois was one of two military working dogs that helped locate a missing Molokai man in August 2001. Roeska is the first Marine Corps working dog to be adopted under a Department of Defense program allowing animals to be adopted after they can no longer work. Lt. Cmdr. Brian Hoyt has adopted the dog.

Brannen Tamashiro and Brad Chung, both Mililani High School students, spent their Thursday afternoon fishing at Lake Wilson in Wahiawa. They caught a few fish and enjoyed the surroundings minus any salvinia molesta waterweed.
