Jaron’s unveils
‘Da Big Party’
tomorrow

WINDWARD residents have a big reason to stay on that side of the island tomorrow night -- Jaron's kicks off a new monthly event called "Da Big Party" at the Kailua restaurant this weekend.

Management plans to set up a tent in the parking lot for this one, with Island Rhythm 98.5 morning jock Augie Tulba serving as emcee. Natural Vibrations and Marty Dread provide the night's entertainment, with Dread also celebrating the release of his new CD, "The Hits: 1993-2003," which arrived on store shelves Tuesday. Cover is $10 for "Da Big Party"; call 261-4600 ...

LOOKS LIKE I'm not the only one taking advantage of the ono kine grinds at Kincaid's Fish, Chop and Steak House during their "Great Alaska Seafood Festival." The place was packed on Monday night when I stopped in for dinner, and the Copper River king salmon I ordered had me licking the plate clean!

Kincaid's marketing director T.C. Khoe also tells me that customers can look forward to fresh-off-the-plane dungeness and rock crab, Weathervane scallops, spot prawns, cod and halibut showing up on the menu over the next few weeks. Call 591-2005 to make your reservations ...

PIPELINE CAFE brings their "Battle of the Bands" contest back to the nightclub tonight, starting at 9 p.m. Head over for a taste of local bands like Koshi, No Bare Feet, Silver Spoon City, teradactyl and Walks Among Us. Call 479-6007 for more info and to sign up your band ...

TONIGHT ALSO marks the start of this year's "Miss Hawaiian Tropic Hawaii State Pageant Series" at Gordon Biersch. The top eight finishers from each of the preliminary rounds over the next three weeks will advance to the state finals on June 28.

Preliminary rounds start at 8 p.m. at the restaurant, and ladies over the age of 18 are still welcome to sign up for a chance to be Hawaii's representative at this year's Miss Hawaiian Tropic finals, which will be held at the Turtle Bay Resort in September. Call 734-6900 for more details ...

A FEW more picks for the weekend to finish up: Tomorrow will be a lucky night at The Ground Level with DJs Bennie James, Gonzales and Vince for "Groove Lounge," starting at 10 p.m. ... The ladies will be running things Saturday night, as the Sisters in Sound celebrate their new website at Indigo while DJ Sandra Collins headlines "Turntable Angels 4" at Galaxy Nightclub ... And from what I hear, "C*ntroversy" makes its last stand on Saturday at Club Pauahi. Don't sleep ...
