Biker in critical shape after Waipahu crash

A 22-year-old Waipahu man was in critical condition at Queen's Medical Center after he was involved in a motorcycle and truck collision yesterday afternoon on Waipahu Street, police reported.

The man was riding a red 1998 Suzuki motorcycle westbound on Waipahu Street when he failed to negotiate a turn 253 feet west of Waipahu Depot Road, said traffic Sgt. William Baldwin.

The motorcycle and its rider slid into a silver 1985 Toyota pickup that was eastbound on Waipahu Street. The 22-year-old Pearl City man driving the truck and his front-seat passenger, a 21-year-old Waipahu man, were wearing seat belts and were not injured, police said.

The motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet and reflective vest and may have been inexperienced in negotiating turns, police said.

The conditions were dry and clear at the time of the 1:30 p.m. accident and police didn't know yesterday if speed or alcohol were factors.

Police say suspect hid in club, stole quarters

A 41-year-old male was arrested early yesterday morning after allegedly stealing quarters from a pool table machine at Club By Me, according to police.

Police said that the man hid in the ceiling of the bathroom before the club closed. At about 2:15 a.m. when the club had cleared, he climbed out and opened the pool table machine, which tripped the burglar alarm.

Police arrested the man "with an armful of quarters" at the door of the club as he was trying to leave.
