Ching continues
to improve

Former Hawaii outside hitter Tony Ching is still in stable condition after a mo-ped accident last Friday. Ching, 22, was transferred out of the ICU at Queen's Medical Center on Monday and continues to show signs of improvement, including sitting up in bed for over an hour.

Ching suffered injuries to his head, legs, lungs and left shoulder after being struck by a car in Makiki. He underwent four hours of neurosurgery to drain blood from his head. A chest tube inserted to treat his collapsed lung has already been removed.

The first team AVCA All-American completed his eligibility last spring. He played an integral role in bringing home Hawaii's first national championship in men's volleyball in 2001 with a standout performance in the NCAA final.
