Police probe woman’s
death, man's jump

A man leaps from a Waikiki hotel,
leaving a dead woman and a sleeping baby

Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in a Waikiki hotel after her husband apparently jumped from the fourth floor of the hotel.

The husband, 32, was found on the ground at the rear of the Holiday Surf Hotel at 2303 Ala Wai at 4:49 a.m. yesterday. A chain link fence apparently broke his fall.

He was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.

When police went to his room, they found the body of his wife, 31, and the couple's 1-month-old son sleeping in a crib, said Lt. Bill Kato, Honolulu Police Homicide Detail. Police also found what appeared to be a suicide note in the room, Kato said. They will get a chance to read the note after obtaining a search warrant.

The case has been classified as an unattended death and attempted suicide, pending the autopsy on the woman. There were no obvious signs of injury, Kato said.

He said the infant appeared to be in good health and has been turned over to the state Child Protective Services.

A manager at the hotel said that until a month ago, the man worked there as a desk clerk. He moved into a fourth-floor room about mid-March. The manager said the woman arrived about a month later.
